A Frozen Birthday

It's mad March that's for sure with birthday parties galore and amongst them all my youngest's 4th  birthday! After seeing Disney's Frozen after Christmas there has only been one party theme option....FROZEN!! Captured by the movie, it's music and Elsa's magical powers she wouldn't even consider another theme. So the planning began....

First thought was that it would be easy to put together as there would be a tonne of Frozen merchandise available but after scouring the shops and then turning my attention to online shopping I soon realised two things; Australia currently has very limited Frozen merchandise in stock and postage from the US is extremely expensive! This meant that I had to get creative.....luckily the colours and landscape in the movie made this relatively easy. So blues and whites it would be, with anything snow/ice related or Frozen specific that I could get my hands on!

Party Printables
My starting point was the invitation and as Elsa was the favourite these Invites from Kids Party Printables were a perfect choice!

Their service was excellent and the invites were stunning so it was an easy decision to purchase their Thank You, Water Bottle labels and cupcake topper printables (pictured below).

Decorations
Once I had the printables the rest just fell into place!! Taking inspiration from the blues in the invitations I was able to source some costume fabrics from my local fabric shop that were perfect for the table backdrop and table runner. A little white fur fabric added a 'snowy' look to the table. Some online searching managed to turn up some Frozen figurines that were perfect for cake and table decorations. Snowflake fondant cutters were the perfect tool for putting the finishing touches on the cake.

A few visits to cheap variety stores contributed the rest. Pretty blue glass containers with battery operated tea light candles added a glow to the table. Glass lolly jars were perfect for a snowy winter landscape to house our Frozen figurines. Variety shops are great for picking up paper decorations and party supplies. I was able to get paper snowflakes, cupcake stand, plastic wares and paper straws, along with glass drink dispenser and milk bottles.

Food & Drink
The party was an afternoon tea so a dessert table was in order, with blue & white being the predominant theme. The centrepiece was a fondant covered chocolate mud cake. Adding extra sweetness to the table were a selection of cake pops. While searching the internet for Frozen inspiration I came across a YouTube tutorial by Cupcake Addiction for Frozen cake pops. A fantastic tutorial, some supplies from my local cake decorating store and a printer and these great cake pops were born!
In addition to these cake pops I decorated both round and tree shaped cake pops with sugar crystal and ribbons. They were a mixture of cake and no-bake cake pops (Tim Tams & Mint Slice). Snowflake cookies were supplied by The Sweet Tooth Factory and were delicious!
Can't go wrong with kids and jelly, and Aeroplane jelly came to the party with two different shades; blueberry & lemonade.
Rounding out the dessert table was a cupcake tower. The cupcake toppers were the perfect addition.
Any spare room on the table was filled with white marshmallows and white crown mints. Sugar was used on serving platters to give a white, snowy sparkle.

Drinks were water, juice and blue lemonade. Printables were used to decorate the bottles and give them a 'Frozen' feel. Our blue lemonade was made using koolaid (managed to source this from a lolly shop stocking US products) and lemonade.

Games & Activities
What would a party be without a few games and activities!! The kids loved 'Pin the Carrot on Olaf', which was so easy to put together thanks to this free downloadable by HaleGrafx.com.

'Frozen Statues' was another great game with the kids having a ball dancing around to the Frozen soundtrack. Frozen sticker and colouring books were great for game prizes.

A number of activities were set up to keep the kids busy and included:
Frozen colouring pages,
Epsom salt snowflake painting, and
Necklace and bracelet making.

Some special highlights from the party were ice magic where our little Queen Elsa did some "ice bending" and our snow machine. Ice bending is a great trick and perfect for a Frozen party. For more details refer to this great YouTube clip, http://youtu.be/sQdLttUh_b0

Perfect theme for a party as my lil miss and her friends had a blast!
